About Scott
Scott is a proud athlete with a below-the-knee amputation. Joining athletic events did not only bring him to greater heights but also served as an eye-opener. Scott saw the need for more inclusive recreation for disabled and older, able-bodied, adaptive individuals, which is why he founded A.R.I.
All of his family members met each other in Honolulu after his dad was diagnosed with cancer. To this day, Scott is still staying in Hawaii, so he keeps himself busy by engaging in various activities on the island of Maui.
Well-Rounded Athlete
Scott has taken his passion for surfing to the next level by competing in the Championship tour, a professional sport with legs in Hawaii, Costa Rica, and California. He has also joined and competed in endurance events and finished over 100 major races, including the Ironman, Xterra World, Boston, NYC, and the Western States 100-Miler.
He also played baseball in Avignon, France, and has run rivers professionally in Chile; Costa Rica; Jackson Hole, WY; Big Sky, MT; and the Southeastern United States.
Aside from joining sports activities, he has climbed Denali, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, and Mt. Elbrus in Russia.
Fun and Reliable Local Guide
Scott was known to be a high-end athlete in baseball, mountaineering, rock climbing, river running, and skiing. Through A.R.I., he shares his joy and knowledge of surfing, snorkeling, fishing, SUP, hiking, outrigger canoeing, and other recreations.
Aside from lessons, he rents sports gear and organizes a trip for athletic individuals like him. One concept he has for a 14- or 19-day European vacation is to go to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Lausanne, Switzerland, follow the Tour de France, and participate in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
Certified and Trained Search and Rescue Staff
At A.R.I., the goal is to have fun while keeping everyone safe. Scott has an extensive background in Wilderness Medicine and is certified in First Aid and CPR. He worked in Search and Rescue (SAR) for the National Park Service at Denali, Rocky Mountain National Park, Devils Tower, Yosemite, Glacier, and Haleakala. He was a part of McMurdo Station’s elite Field Safety Training Program, doing SAR and teaching winter survival skills for the US Antarctic Program.
